Kenny King Smith
Even when he was a small child, music was his life. He
remembers
his father coming downstairs where he played on the piano in the wee
hours of the morning. Dad had to remind him that he had school in
the morning. Kenny didn't care. He cared about making music!
The son of a preacher, Kenny was Born in Chattanooga, Tennesee, and was raised in the Monterey and Watsonville areas of California. As a teenager, he started singing in the choir and playing piano and organ at his dad's Gospel church and continued there for many years. He eventually branched out from there into other types of music, including jazz. He was was featured at the Aptos Blues Festival and Monterey Blues Festival in 1998.
I first met Kenny when I had the good fortune to go with a friend to an impersonator show he was producing, I thoroughly enjoyed myself, and so much that I wanted to spotlight him here. He is a perfect example of the "gifted child" growing up and continuing to make people smile with his gifts.
